Teunis "Teun" Mulder (born June 18, 1981 in Zuuk , Epe) is a former Dutch track cyclist . He was world champion three times and won gold at the Paralympics.

Athletic career

Teun Mulder won his first national title in 2000 when he became the Dutch master of the track omnium . In the course of his career he was a total of twelve times national champion in the disciplines keirin , time trial and sprint .

In 2005, at the UCI Track World Championships in Los Angeles, Mulder became world champion in the keirin; In 2008 and 2010 he became world champion in the 1000 meter time trial on the track. There were also numerous podium places at other world championships and world cups . He was also twice European champion. At the 2011 UCI Track World Championships , Mulder won silver in the time trial and bronze in the Keirin.

Teun Mulder took three times at Olympic Games in part, in 2004 in Athens and 2008 in Beijing, but was able to win a medal. At the 2012 Olympic Games in London , Mulder finished third in the Keirin , which he shared with New Zealander Simon van Velthooven .

In September 2013, Mulder announced that he would end his own career as a competitive cyclist. However, he wants to continue to be active as a pilot in tandem races for visually impaired athletes. At the 2013 Dutch track championships, he and Rinne Oost took second place in the tandem sprint . At the UCI Paracycling World Championships in 2015 , he and Tristan Bangma won a bronze medal in the sprint and a silver medal in the time trial. In the following year, the two athletes won the gold medal in the time trial on the track at the Summer Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro .

Following the Paralympics, Mulder announced his final retirement as an active cyclist. Since 2006 he has been working part-time as a forensic advisor for the Dutch police . In future he will devote himself full-time to his job. In 2019 he headed the organization of the Paracycling World Track Championships in Apeldoorn .
