153 athletes from 30 nations took part in the world championships and competed in 31 different competitions. Several athletes have won two titles, such as the British Sophie Thornhill with her pilot Helen Scott (WB), Neil Fachie with his pilot Peter Mitchell (MB) and Sarah Storey in the pursuit (WC5). From the German-speaking area, the German Denise Schindler won three medals, a gold medal in the individual pursuit , a silver medal in the time trial and a bronze medal in the scratch (WC3) and was therefore the most successful athlete based on the number of medals.
The classification of athletes is carried out by the UCI in coordination with the International Paralympic Committee (IPC). Only cyclists who have received a corresponding license according to a classification are allowed to take part in paracycling competitions.
The performance classes, in turn, are differentiated according to discipline:
Cycling ( track bike ): C1 - C5, where C1 denotes the greatest impairment
Tandem for the visually impaired who ride with a visually impaired pilot: B.
In the case of women and men, there is a “W” and an “M” in front of the description of the classification.
