Jehor Wiktorowytsch Dementjew , also Igor Dementev , ( Ukrainian Єгор Вікторович Дементьев ; born March 12, 1987 in Kremenchuk ) is a Ukrainian road cyclist who also starts in Paracycling .

Career

Jehor Dementew started his career in 2009 with the Ukrainian Continental Team ISD-Sport-Donetsk . In his first year as a professional he finished sixth at the Tallinn-Tartu Grand Prix and he and his teammate Jurij Agarkow won the prologue at the Polska-Ukraina stage race. At the Ukrainian championship Dementew won the road race of the U23 class. He also started at the U23 European Championship in Belgium, where he finished 36th in the road race.

Dementew has been physically disabled since birth. He was also driven by a car in May 2011 and injured so badly that he was hospitalized for three months with numerous fractures. At first he learned to walk again with great effort, mainly through swimming training. Since then, Dementew has mainly started in paracycling races . In 2014 and 2015 he became world champion in the individual time trial (C5).

In 2012 Jehor Dementew won two gold medals at the Paralympics in London , in the individual time trial and in the road race. Four years later, at the games in Rio de Janeiro , he won the single pursuit over 4000 meters on the track with a new world record time (4: 24.057 min) , as well as the individual time trial on the road. In road racing, he was disqualified after a collision with Australian driver Alistair Donohoe .
