The UCI Para-cycling Road World Championships 2017 ( 2017 UCI Para-Cycling Road World Championships ) took place between 31 August and 3 September 2017 Pietermaritzburg in South Africa instead.
Around 260 athletes from 38 nations registered for the competitions. In the individual classes, both individual time trials and road races were held, with the handbikers also having a relay.
The World Championships were preceded by three World Cup races in Italy , Belgium and the Netherlands , in which the teams from the Netherlands, the United States and Germany had proven to be dominant, followed by the one from Italy with the successes of their handbikers. The host country was also represented by a strong team, led by the driver Pieter du Preez , who is not only successful as a cyclist but also as a track and field athlete.
