Wolfgang Schattauer (born October 8, 1959 in Vienna ) is an Austrian handbiker . He starts in the paracycling category H1.

Athletic career

Wolfgang Schattauer was active in triathlon , of which he contested over 100. He started 19 times in Ironman competitions, five times in Ironman Hawaii . On July 30, 1999, he was involved in an accident while riding a bicycle on the road; to this day the course of events and other parties involved have not been clarified. Since then he has been paralyzed and has been in a wheelchair.

A year after the accident, Schattauer started training on the handbike, and in 2000 he took part in the first marathon. Since 2002 he started at international level, for example in 2006 at the road world championships, where he won the gold medal in the road race and the gold medal in the individual time trial . At the 2008 Summer Paralympics in Beijing , he won gold in the individual time trial, and at the 2012 Paralympics in London, bronze in both time trials and road races. In addition, from 2007 to 2013 he was European handbiking master and 13 times Austrian master.
