Tomaž Tomšič (born August 17, 1972 in Postojna ) is a Slovenian handball coach and former handball player , who was mostly used as a circle runner .

The 1.91 m tall and 103 kg heavy right-handed player began playing handball at RD Ribniča. He later moved to the top club RK Celje , with whom he was multiple Slovenian champions and cup winners. In the EHF Champions League he reached the semifinals five times in a row from 1997 to 2001 and the quarterfinals in 2001/02. The 2002/03 European Cup Winners' Cup failed again in the semifinals. For the 2003/04 season he went to France to US Ivry HB . During the 2004/05 season he returned to RD Ribniča.

With the Slovenian national team Tomaž Tomšič won the silver medal at the 2004 European Championships in their own country. He also participated in the 2000 and 2004 Olympics. In total, Tomšič played 200 international matches , in which he scored 414 goals.

After the end of his career, Tomšič was twice coach of his home club.
