Kerstin Brachtendorf (born May 22, 1972 ) is a German cyclist .
Kerstin Brachtendorf starts in the UCI elite category, but also in the paracycling category C5 due to the handicap of one of her legs . At first she was mainly active as a mountain biker in the elite. In 2006 she won together with Sabine Grona the mountain bike race Cape Epic in South Africa , and the following year she won at the German championship in mountain bike marathon third. In 2008 she won the Transalp Tour and became European Mountain Bike Champion at the Masters .
In 2011 Brachtendorf qualified for the UCI Paracycling World Championships in the Velodromo Fassa Bortolo in Montichiari and finished fifth in the single pursuit ; in the same year she was second in the Ronda Piccola at the Bike Marathon Riva del Garda . In 2011 and 2013 she won the overall ranking of the UCI Road World Cup (C5) and since 2011 the German road championship three times in a row. At the Summer Paralympics 2012 in London, she started in four different disciplines and finished fourth in the road race . In 2013 she won the title of world champion in road racing after finishing fifth in 2011 . In 2015 she won bronze in the road race and in the individual time trial .
In March 2014, the Maxx-Solar team announced that it had signed Kerstin Brachtendorf. The athlete wanted to prepare specifically for the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro . At the Games, she finished fifth in the road race and seventh in the individual time trial on the road; on the track she finished eighth in the single pursuit. At the UCI Paracycling Road World Championships in 2017 , she became world champion for the second time and won bronze in the individual time trial.
Professional
Kerstin Brachtendorf is a qualified graphic designer . She regularly spends the months from October to April in Gran Canaria , where she works as a mountain bike guide.
