Michael Teuber (born January 23, 1968 in Tegernsee ) is a German Paracyclist .

Life

In August 1987, Michael Teuber suffered incomplete paraplegia in the area of ​​the lumbar spine in a car accident in France , which left him completely paralyzed below the knee joint. He studied business administration and is now one of the few disabled sports professionals (since 1997). He is also a Laureus Sports Ambassador, Paralympic Ambassador (2008) and was a candidate for the Athletes Commission of the International Paralympic Committee IPC in 2008 . He is married, has a daughter and lives in Odelzhausen .

Sports career

After a long rehabilitation phase and a minimally preserved residual function of the right thigh, Michael Teuber began cycling in 1989, first with a mountain bike , then with a racing bike . In 1998 he was first nominated for the Paralympic World Championships, where he won two gold medals.

Michael Teuber starts in class C1 (formerly LC4) over 1000 and 3000 meters as well as in team sprints , road races and time trials.

On November 30, 2018, Michael Teuber improved the previous hour record in class C1 to 42.583 kilometers as part of the Track Cycling World Cup in the Berlin Velodrom . The previous record was 39.326 kilometers and was set by Teuber himself on May 8, 2005 on the cycle race track in Augsburg .

Rockclimbing

Despite his handicap, Teuber achieved several exceptional performances. In 2008 he conquered the Pico del Teide on Tenerife (3718 m) and in 2010 with the Kilimanjaro (5895 m) the highest mountain in Africa. On February 9, 2017, led by Marco Cruz and accompanied by Tilo Komma-Pöllath and Israel Paez, he reached Chimborazo in Ecuador (6237 m).
