Erich Winkler (born May 23, 1968 in Neumarkt-Sankt Veit ) is a German disabled cyclist in class C1 .

Athletic career

Erich Winkler is a trained interior decorator and parquet layer . In addition to his job, he always did sports, most recently he started in fun runs and half marathons . On April 13, 2001, Winkler had a motorcycle accident in which he lost his right arm and left leg; At the beginning of 2002 he started cycling.

In 2004 , 2008 and 2012 Winkler competed at the Summer Paralympics in various disciplines on track and road . After winning a bronze medal at the 2004 Paralympics and receiving the silver laurel leaf for it on March 16, 2005, his best placings were later fourth in the single track pursuit on the track in 2008 and in the individual time trial on the road. In the following years he took numerous top positions in national and international competitions. At the UCI Paracycling Road World Championships 2015 in Nottwil , he won bronze in road races .

In the same year Winkler was nominated for the summer Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro to start in the single pursuit , the 1000-meter time trial on the track, the individual time trial on the road and the road race. In the single pursuit, his prosthetic leg clicked off the pedals so that he was allowed to start a second time and qualified for the small final for bronze. There he lost to the Dutchman Arnoud Nijhuis .
