Alyda Norbruis (born March 28, 1989 in Drachten ) is a Dutch paracycler .
Athletic career
Alyda Norbruis was a premature baby ; she and her twin sister Alyce were born three months early. When she was born she suffered a cerebral haemorrhage , which left her partially paralyzed ( infantile cerebral palsy ).
Norbruis began her athletic career with para-skiing to take part in the Winter Paralympics 2010 in Vancouver . However, her performance was not convincing, so she switched to paracycling in 2011. She qualified for the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London and won the silver medal in the 500 meter time trial on the track . At the 2016 Summer Paralympics she was a double winner by winning both the 500-meter time trial on the track and the individual time trial on the road, and she also came third in the track pursuit.
By 2020, Alyda Norbruis was ten times world champion in various track disciplines, and multiple Dutch champion. She set new world records four times over 500 meters on the track. Since 2014 she has also held the world record in the single pursuit with 4.07.454 minutes (still current in 2020).
