Background and career

Christiane Reppe, who had to have his right leg amputated at the age of five due to a malignant nerve tumor, started her sports career at the age of twelve. As part of the German national ski team's junior squad, she achieved several second and third places in German championships and world cups.

Swimming successes

At the same time, the athlete began swimming training. In the winter of 2002 Reppe qualified for her first swimming world championships in Mar del Plata, Argentina , and won two bronze medals there.

From then on she swam at the state base in Dresden with trainer Dirk Oehme and was able to achieve further successes: At the Paralympic Games in Athens in 2004 she won bronze twice in the individual disciplines of 100 m and 400 m freestyle. In the same year she was awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf .

In order to set new training stimuli, the then 20-year-old relocated her training location to Berlin . There she started for the PSC Berlin and trained with the Berlin swim team, under the direction of Matthias Ulm. Due to a shoulder injury, the then-Berlin-by-choice returned from the Paralympic Games in Beijing in 2008 with a good 6th place in the 400 m freestyle discipline. In August 2011 she moved to Berlin coach Phillip Semechin. The goal was the 2012 Paralympic Games in London . On her parade route, the 400 m freestyle, she achieved a 5th place there, along with other finals. After the Paralympic Games in London in 2012 , Reppe ended her swimming career and thus initially also competitive sport.

In her career as a competitive swimmer, she had great successes from 2002 to 2012. She holds several German swimming records.
