Alistair Donohoe (born March 3, 1995 in Nhulunbuy ) is an Australian cyclist who competes in paracycling competitions (C5) and in elite cycling races.
Career
At the age of 13, Alistair Donohoe started triathlon training, following the example of his parents. In doing so, he discovered that pure cycling was what he enjoyed most. At the age of 15, he had an accident while playing with friends that left his right arm deformed. Initially, he continued to compete in races for non-disabled athletes until he was told to compete in the Paracyclists .
In 2013 Donohoe won bronze in the road race and in the individual time trial at the Paracycling World Championships, and the following year he became world champion in road racing in class C5 . In 2015 he won two world championship titles, again the road race and the scratch on the track .
In 2015, Alistair Donohoe was third in the Australian Road Championship (U23) and named to the squad for the Road World Championships . In the U23 road race there, he initially finished 20th, but was disqualified for violating the rules (support from motorized vehicles) because he had clung to the team car.
At the Paralympics 2016 in Rio de Janeiro , Donohoe won a silver medal each in the individual time trial and in the individual pursuit on the track. The Ukrainian Jehor Dementjew was always ahead of him . During the road race there was a collision with Dementjew. While Dementjew was disqualified , Donohoe, who crossed the finish line on foot, finished fifth.
