Kai-Kristian Kruse (born August 19, 1991 in Hamburg ) is a German paracyclist and former rower . He starts in class TB.

At the age of three, Kai Kruse collided with another child while running in the hall and suffered a severe concussion . The optic nerve was so badly damaged that Kruse lost part of his eyesight.

Kruse started rowing in 2001 and started for the rowing club Favorite Hammonia from Hamburg. With the club eight he took part in the rowing Bundesliga . From 2010 he concentrated on para rowing , the following year he was nominated for the first time as a substitute for the world championships. In the 2012 Paralympic season he moved up to the German LTA mixed foursome for the Paralympics in London because of an injury to another athlete , where he won the silver medal with Katrin Splitt , Astrid Hengsbach , Tino Kolitscher and Anke Molkenthin . For this success he was awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf , the highest sporting award in Germany, on November 7, 2012 by Federal President Joachim Gauck .

At the initiative of the German Disabled Sports Association , Kai Kruse and the multiple cycling world and Olympic champion Stefan Nimke prepared as a pilot on the tandem for the 1000 meter time trial at the 2016 Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro . At the UCI Paracycling World Track Championships in 2014 , both finished fifth in this discipline, and in 2015 the duo won the bronze medal at the World Championships in Apeldoorn . The following year, at the UCI Para-cycling Track World Championships 2016 in Italy Montichiari , reached Kruse and Nimke a new best time of 1: 02.449 minutes and occupied fourth place.

In 2016, Kruse started with Nimke as a pilot at the Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro . In the pursuit they finished 13th, in the time trial over 1000 meters they won the bronze medal. This makes Nimke the first German athlete to win medals in both the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

In 2019 Kruse started with his new pilot Robert Förstemann at the Paracycling World Championships in Apeldoorn .
