Anke Molkenthin

Anke Molkenthin (born May 26, 1962 in Berlin ) is a German runner and rower .

As an extreme athlete, she achieved numerous victories in marathon , ultra- long distance , duathlon and mountain running competitions between 1988 and 2007 (including first place in the Swiss Alpine Marathon in 1988 and in the Marathon des Sables in 1996). A turning point then gradually occurred: due to progressive dystonia in her left leg, Molkenthin had to end her running career.

After starting out in rowing, she won bronze in the para- mixed foursome at the World Rowing Championships in 2009 , 2010 and 2011 . In 2012 Molkenthin won silver with Katrin Splitt , Astrid Hengsbach , Tino Kolitscher and Kai Kruse in the mixed foursome at the Summer Paralympics in London . For this success she was presented with the Silver Laurel Leaf , the highest sporting award in Germany, on November 7, 2012 by Federal President Joachim Gauck . At the 2013 World Rowing Championships in Chungju , South Korea , she and Marcus Klemp took second place behind the Ukraine in the LTAMix2x .

Anke Molkenthin lives in Ainring and starts for the Waginger rowing club .
