Jan Gürtler

Jan Gürtler (born February 6, 1970 in Halle / Saale ) is a German wheelchair table tennis player . His greatest achievement was second place at the 1998 World Cup.

Life

At the age of seven, Gürtler fell from the eighth floor of a high-rise building, resulting in paraplegia . In 1991 he began his sports career, first with regular training in the wheelchair sports club in Berlin . In 2005 he moved to TSV Marienfelde . Gürtler is now playing for Lichtenrader SC.

Gürtler has a degree in finance. He is married and has two sons.

successes

At the 1996 Summer Paralympics , he won bronze with the team. In 1998 he won silver in the individual championship, three years later he won bronze in the individual championships, which he did again in 2008. In 2011 he won the European Championship with his team. At the 2012 Paralympics in London, he won silver in a team with Thomas Schmidberger and Thomas Brüchle .

For this success he received the Silver Laurel Leaf on November 7, 2012 .

Gürtler took part in the Paralympic Games in Atlanta , Sydney , Athens , Beijing and London .
