The Rowing League (RBL) is a rowing racing series for eight in Germany (full name 2013-2015 after the main sponsor PRODYNA rowing Bundesliga ). The Ruder-Event GmbH & Co. KG , founded in 2009, organizes the 1st Women's Rowing League and the 1st and 2nd Men's Rowing League in cooperation with the German Rowing Association . The German league champion is determined over sprint distances of 350 m on five to six race weekends.

idea

The rowing league is intended to bring back lost public presence to German rowing . After the public interest in rowing fell sharply over the past thirty years and the German Rowing Association had suffered a sharp decline in the young age groups, a sustainable event concept for rowing regattas in the German sports landscape was sought. Since individual sprint rudder regattas, especially for teams of eight, were more popular with clubs and spectators in recent years, the idea arose to develop and carry out a uniform racing series for the boat class eight at several locations.

The initiative for this league project goes back to the organizers Arne Simann and Nils Budde, who organized a sprint regatta for eight, the Buss-Capital eight- sprint cup, in Ratzeburg in 2007 .

League operation

Licensing of the participating teams

The prerequisite for registering a team in the rowing Bundesliga is the purchase of a license for a fee to start the season in question. The starting clubs recognize the license regulations of the Rowing Bundesliga as mandatory.

Seasonal schedule

The rowing Bundesliga is held at the different locations with the same rowing clubs in an identical manner. Unusually for rowing, the rowing clubs undertake to have their eight teams take part in all regattas of the rowing Bundesliga season by recognizing the license agreement. On every race weekend, the first three boats in each league are honored with medals, and the winner also receives a trophy. On the basis of these points won by the teams, the table of the rowing Bundesliga is drawn up at the end of the race weekends. The table leader after the last regatta weekend wins the title of German league champion .

Tasks of the Ruder-Event GmbH & Co. KG

The Ruder-Event GmbH & Co. KG organizes the licensing procedure, the uniform appearance in public as well as the uniform marketing of the Ruder-Bundesliga racing series on behalf of the German Rowing Association. It provides part of the regatta equipment for the implementation of the regattas, as well as the moderation of the race weekends for the organizers. In addition, she supports the teams in public appearances and sponsor acquisition.

Host

Potential organizers apply annually to Ruder-Event GmbH & Co. KG to host the Bundesliga races and, if necessary, conclude a hosting contract with the same. The supporting program for racing operations as well as the provision of the Albano system (buoy chain system) and the competition judges are the responsibility of the organizers.

With the aim of promoting the development of rowing equally in all regions of Germany, the aim is basically to allocate the venues evenly across the country, provided that the framework conditions for the hosting are met.

mode

On every race weekend, the eighth of each league row in a time trial in which all teams complete the distance against the clock. After the results of these so-called time trials, the pairings for the following round of 16 will be set. The final round consists of eighth, quarter, half and final races, which are held in a knockout system . Every placement is carried out in order to be able to assign points to the teams. The winner of a race weekend wins 16 points, each boat placed further one point less. The table results in the individual leagues result from the addition of the points gained by each club boat on the racing weekends.
