The Hamburg rowing club Favorite Hammonia ( called the Fari by its members ) is a German rowing club and operates its boathouse on the western bank of the Outer Alster in Hamburg . Founded in 1854, it is - after the neighboring Hamburger and Germania rowing club - the second oldest and with around 800 members one of the largest rowing clubs in Germany . The association only accepts male members.

In addition to rowing as a popular sport , the Fari is primarily involved in competitive sports . Countless successes of the active players in all age groups at national and international regattas and championships - including an Olympic victory in 1992 by Michael Steinbach as a member of the German double foursome - shaped the club's history. In addition, the rowing club has a children's and youth department with the Jung-Favorite , which is also present at regattas and championships. In addition, the now disbanded chess division of the Fari played from 1976 to 1982 in the 1st Bundesliga and achieved second place as the best result in 1980.

In addition, the rowing club in Hamburg offers schoolchildren the opportunity to row as part of sports lessons and in school working groups. There is also an offer for company sports groups. Every year in November the Fari organizes the long-distance regatta FARI-Cup on the Alster , which is now one of the largest long- distance regattas in Europe.
