Sam Benjamin Ligtlee (born December 12, 1997 in Eerbeek ) is a Dutch cyclist. He is a younger brother of Elis Ligtlee , the 2016 Keirin Olympic champion.

Athletic career

In 2013 Sam Ligtlee was two-time Dutch junior champion, in the sprint and in the 1000 meter time trial ; the following year he won this title again and was also junior champion in the keirin . In 2015 he won the bronze medal in the time trial and in the keirin at the European Junior Championships .

In 2017 Ligtlee won the bronze medal in the 1000 meter time trial at the U23 European Championships . At his first start in the elite at the U23 European Championships in Berlin, he finished third in the team sprint together with Jeffrey Hoogland , Harrie Lavreysen , Matthijs Büchli and Roy van den Berg . As a result, he won three races at World Cups and was also U23 European team sprint champion in 2019 with Koen van der Wijst and Harrie Lavreysen .

In 2020 Sam Ligtlee became world champion in the 1000-meter time trial in Berlin . World Champion
