Ian Browne
Ian Sterry "Joey" Browne (born June 22, 1931 in Melbourne ) is a former Australian track cyclist and Olympic champion.
In 1956 Ian Browne started as a local hero at the Olympic Games in Melbourne and together with Tony Marchant won the gold medal in the tandem race . Four years later, at the Games in Rome , he finished ninth on tandem with Geoffrey Smith . At his third Olympic start, 1964 in Tokyo , he remained unplaced in the same discipline. Browne was also successful at the Commonwealth Games : in 1958 in Cardiff he won the ten-mile race and in 1962 he was third in the sprint in Perth . He also won several Australian titles in various rail disciplines .
In 2010, Ian Browne was inducted into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame with Tony Marchant .
