Giuseppe Beghetto (born October 8, 1939 in Tombolo ) is a former Italian cyclist , Olympic champion and three-time world champion in cycling .

In 1958 Giuseppe Beghetto, who specialized in the short-term disciplines in track cycling , was the first Italian champion in the sprint of amateurs, and the following year he was third in the track sprint classic Grand Prix de Paris . In 1960, at the Olympic Games in Rome , he and Sergio Bianchetto , who was his greatest competitor at national level, became Olympic champion in tandem races . In 1961 Beghetto won the Grand Prix de Paris , was vice world champion in sprint and two-time Italian champion in sprint and tandem, again with Bianchetto.

In 1962 Beghetto switched to the professionals and remained active as such until 1973. He won the title of world champion in the professional sprint three times (1965, 1966 and 1968), in 1967 that of the vice world champion (behind Patrick Sercu ), and was Italian champion several times and won again in 1968 at the Grand Prix des Paris .

Beghetto also started in six-day races and came second twice, in Montreal in 1965 and in Madrid in 1966 . In 1969 he was the last Italian sprint champion, then he shifted his focus to the road and was able to win several stage victories in tours there. In 1970 he took part in the Tour de France without success . He was excluded on the 11th stage because he had clung to an escort car. After his career, he withdrew completely from cycling and worked as a cattle breeder and farmer.

Giuseppe Beghetto's son Massimo is a former Italian football professional who won the Italian Cup with Vicenza Calcio in 1997 and is now a coach.
