Italo Astolfi

Italo Astolfi (born December 31, 1917 in Zibido San Giacomo , † April 7, 2004 in Croglio , Switzerland ) was an Italian track cyclist and national champion in cycling .

In 1939 Italo Astolfi finished second in the amateur sprint at the UCI World Railroad Championships in Milan , behind Jan Derksen from the Netherlands and ahead of German Gerhard Purann , one day before World War II broke out. Also in 1939 he won the prestigious Copenhagen Grand Prix in the sprint for amateurs. From 1940 to 1951 he was a professional driver, most of the time without a team contract. Between 1941 and 1950 he won the title of Italian sprint champion seven times.

Astolfi's older brother Ferruccio was also a cyclist. In 1935 he took 45th place near Milan – Sanremo .
