Enzo Sacchi

Enzo Sacchi (born January 6, 1926 in Florence , † July 12, 1988 ibid) was an Italian racing cyclist . Sacchi was primarily a track cyclist and was successful in the track sprint discipline.

Life

Sacchi entered the international scene in 1950 with a third place in the Sprint Grand Prix de Paris . The following year he won the Sprint Grand Prix of Paris and Copenhagen and became amateur world champion in track sprint. Sacchi defended his world championship title the following year and was the favorite at the Olympic Games in 1952 , in the final of the track sprint he defeated the Australian Lionel Cox . Sacchi then switched to the professionals, where he was also successful. At the track cycling world championships in 1953 he was defeated in the final by the Olympic champion in the 1000 m time trial of 1936, the Dutchman Arie van Vliet , in 1954 Sacchi was third in the world championships, in 1958 again second. In 1954 and 1959 he won the Paris Sprint GP again. Sacchi, who also competed as a six-day driver (2 wins) and in road races, ended his career in 1966.

The cycling track in his hometown of Florence is named after Sacchi.
