The place is in the valley of the weirs . Federal highway 7 and federal highway 27 meet on the north-eastern edge of the town . The only 8 km long federal road 452 ends when coming from Eschwege in the village. At Oetmannshausen the Sontra flows into the weir.

history

The place name may be derived from the first settler, a Mr. Othwin. The place was first mentioned in a document in 1271. At that time, ownership in Oetmannshausen was transferred to the Germerode monastery . In the 16th century, after the dissolution of the monastery, the village came to the newly created Protestant parishes. The place was owned by the Lords of Boyneburg from the 16th century and accordingly belonged to the partially autonomous Boyneburg court . The current church dates from 1838. The bell, which was taken over from a previous building, dates from 1594. The first school is mentioned as early as 1743. The Leinefelde – Treysa railway line on the outskirts was built at the end of the 19th century. Since 1821 the place belonged to the Eschwege district .

On February 1, 1971, as part of the regional reform in Hesse, the communities of Oetmannshausen and Hoheneiche merged to form the new community "Hoheneiche". This new community Hoheneiche came on December 31, 1971 to the community Wehretal.
