Geographical location
The place is in the valley of the weirs . The federal highway 452 runs through the village . The “Wehretal-Reichensachsen” railway stop is on the Bebra – Göttingen line , a section of the old north-south line from Hanover to Frankfurt am Main and Würzburg .
history
The largest village in the district was first mentioned in 1253. In the past, the place was called "zu den Sassen" or "zu den Richen Sassen". The dominant landlords were the lords of Boyneburg , which is why Reichensachsen also belonged to the partially autonomous Boyneburg court in the early modern period . The Landgraviate of Hesse , the Lords of Eschwege and the Germerode Monastery were in part wealthy in the village. As a "Mengedorf", in which the Landgraves of Hesse-Kassel and the Lords of Boyneburg had possessions, the subjects formerly owned by Bemmelberg were subordinate to the newly founded Landgrave's Office of Bischhausen from 1654. However , the village as such remained until the von Boyneburg- Hohenstein 1792 part of the Boyneburg court . Reichensachsen has been part of the Eschwege district since 1821 .
Jewish community
Next to the general cemetery there was a Jewish cemetery. In 1903 a synagogue was built. During the pogrom night of 1938, the interior of the local synagogue was completely destroyed. Of the 90 Jews who were still living in the village in 1933, the majority emigrated after the Nazis came to power or moved to other cities. In 1940 the 33 remaining Jewish residents of the town were deported and murdered. A memorial stone for the victims of the Holocaust , which can be found on Langenhainer Straße, has been a reminder of them since 2003.
