Ludwig von Baumbach zu Kirchheim

Ludwig Carl Wilhelm von Baumbach zu Kirchheim (born April 22, 1799 in Reichensachsen , † January 26, 1883 in Milwaukee ) was an Elector of Hesse officer and politician. He was a member of the Frankfurt National Assembly in 1848/49 . After the revolution he emigrated to the USA ; there he was first a farmer and later a banker and German consul.

Life

He came from the Althessian noble family von Baumbach . His father was a major and a landowner. He himself entered the electoral Hessian military service. He was Second Lieutenant from 1813 and took part in the Wars of Liberation from 1813 to 1815 . From 1821 he was prime lieutenant . In 1823 he retired from the service as captain à la suite and then lived as a landowner in Reichensachsen and Kassel . From 1833 to 1837 and from 1842 to 1848 he was a member of the Estates Assembly of the Electorate of Hesse , representing the knighthood of the Fulda River. As a liberal-constitutional politician, he was President of Parliament in 1848. As the successor of Ludwig Schwarzenberg , he became a member of the Frankfurt National Assembly on November 20, 1848, in which he represented the electoral district of Kurhessen I (Kassel). In parliament he belonged to the Augsburger Hof faction , and from January 23, 1849 he was a member of the Committee for People's Armament and Army Armament.

He gave up his mandate on February 16, 1849, and in the same year he emigrated to the USA. He was a farmer in Ohio until 1857 . From around 1850 he worked as a political publicist and as an employee of German-language newspapers in the United States. From 1857 to 1883 he was a banker and realtor in Milwaukee. At the same time he was consul from 1857, initially to various German states and from 1870 to the North German Confederation and from 1871 to the German Empire .
