history
The village, first mentioned as "Langenhagen" in 1236, had a church early on, because in 1253 a pleban is mentioned, in 1492 a church. Over the centuries various place names with the additions "-hagen" and "-hain" can be traced: "Langenhayn" (1332), "Haghen" (1343), "Hayn an deme Hundsrucke" (1365), "for the Heynchin grove "(1696). Jurisdiction over the place lay with the Lords of Boyneburg , to whom in a contract of 1602 the Landgraviate of Hessen-Kassel even left the embarrassing jurisdiction here. Church patrons were those of Boyneburg-Hohenstein, from whose heirs the patronage was handed over to the sovereign in 1803.
Originally belonging to the Eschwege office , the aristocratic place came to the landgrave office of Bischhausen in 1654 . Langenhain has belonged to the Eschwege district since 1821 . On April 1, 1972, Langenhain was incorporated into the municipality of Wehretal.
church
The Protestant church is a hall building built in 1837 by Johann Friedrich Matthei in the type of the Reformed transverse churches with largely preserved furnishings from the construction period. The organ dates from 1908.
