Francesco Verri (born June 11, 1885 in Mantua , † June 6, 1945 in Riotorto di Piombino ) was an Italian cyclist and world champion in cycling .

Athletic career

At the Olympic Intermediate Games in Athens in 1906 , he was one of a total of six athletes who could win three gold medals. He won the time trial over 1,000 meters with a time of 01: 42.2. For the victorious run on the track lap he needed 22.8 seconds and he won the race over 5,000 meters in 07: 28.6. In 1905 Verri had already won the amateur sprint championship. He started cycling in 1903.

In the same year Verri (called "Cesco") also won the world championship in track sprint . In September 1906 Verri became a professional, from 1906 to 1911 and 1920 and 1921 he was Italian champion in the professional track sprint. During the First World War , Ferri was active in the United States and won three six-day races there . In 1924 Verri ended his professional career.
