Marcus Latimer Hurley (born December 22, 1883 in New Rochelle , New York , † March 28, 1941 in New York City ) was an American track cyclist and basketball player .
At the age of 17, Hurley became American amateur sprint champion and defended that title for three years. At the 1904 Olympic Games in St. Louis , he won gold medals in sprint races over a quarter mile, a third mile , a half mile and a mile. In the two-mile race, he finished third. Also in 1904 he was sprint world champion in London .
By 1908, Hurley also played basketball for the New York Athletic Club and Columbia University . Hurley lived in New York City and was an engineer by profession .
