Jan van Eijden (born August 10, 1976 in Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler ) is a German cycling trainer and former track cyclist .
Athletic career
Jan van Eijden began his sporting career as a BMX driver. He won his first major title on the track in 1994 when he became Junior World Champion in the 1000-meter time trial . He was twice world champion of the elite, 1995 in the team sprint (together with Michael Hübner and Jens Fiedler ) and 2000 in the track sprint , as well as six times German champion in sprint and team sprint (at that time still "Olympic sprint"). He started for RV Dudenhofen in 1908 and trained on the Dudenhofen cycling track .
In 1999 Jan van Eijden was banned a few days before the home World Cup in Berlin due to increased hematocrit levels . In a long-term test at the University of Freiburg , it turned out that it naturally has an elevated hematocrit value. With a special permit from the World Cycling Federation Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), he was able to start racing again.
In 2000 van Eijden took part in the Olympic Games in Sydney and finished fifth in the sprint and fourth in the keirin. In September 2006 he contested his last race against the Briton Chris Hoy on his home track in Dudenhofen .
Work as a trainer
In 2006 van Eijden resigned as an active player. Shortly afterwards, he became the trainer of the British national track cycling team, where he is responsible for the women's sprint area (as of 2020) .
