Richard Aßmus (born June 4, 1994 in Erfurt ) is a former German track cyclist .

Athletic career

Richard Assmus starts for RV Elxleben . In 2011 he became vice-European junior champion in the team sprint , together with Maximilian Dörnbach and Nikolai Hoffmeister ; in the sprint he finished third. The following year he was two-time junior European champion in the Velodrome in Anadia , in the sprint and team sprint (with Dörnbach and Jan May ). In the same year he was German junior champion in the team sprint, also together with Dörnbach and Hoffmeister.

In 2013, Aßmus won the German title in the team sprint of the elite together with René Enders and Robert Förstemann . In the following year he won the bronze medal in the team sprint at the European Rail Championships (U23) with Robert Kanter and Dörnbach. At the UEC-Bahn-European Championships of Juniors / U23 2015 in Athens he was European champion in team sprint together with Dörnbach and Max Niederlag . At the beginning of August of the same year he set a new track record on his home track Andreasried in the 200-meter qualification for the sprint with 10.18 seconds; the previous record of 10.30 seconds has been held since July 18, 2008 by Olympic and world champion Chris Hoy .

Richard Assmus ended his cycling career at the end of 2016.
