Matthias John
Matthias John (born December 11, 1978 in Erfurt ) is a former German racing cyclist who was mainly active in track cycling , in which he was multiple German and European champions.
Career
Matthias John became German champion in the junior team sprint for the first time in 1995 . At the Junior World Championships in Slovenia in 1996 he was runner-up in the team sprint together with Rene Wolff. In 1997 he won the team sprint at Nordisk Mesterskab in Odense . At the 1998 Goodwill Games in New York , John won the sprint competition . In 2001 he was European track cycling champion in the team sprint in Fiorenzuola d'Arda . In the same year he won the team sprint world cup in Malaysia together with Rene Wolff and Stefan Nimke. In the following year he was able to defend the European title in Büttgen . In 2003 he became German champion in the elite team sprint for the first time. In 2007 and 2008 he was able to repeat this success. At the track cycling world championships in Los Angeles in 2005 , he won the bronze medal in the team sprint. He also won the 2005 World Cup in Moscow . At the Deutsche Bahn cycling championships, John won the elite sprint competition in 2006 and 2007. John also won the German Grand Prix in Cottbus in 2007. Here he defeated the Briton Chris Hoy in the final .
In the 2009 season he drove for Continental Team Milram on the road .
In July 2010, Matthias John announced his retirement from active cycling. Since then he has been working as a trainer at Berlin Personal Training . In addition to sports, John successfully completed a degree in sports science. Following this, he finished his studies to become a sports teacher in 2011.
