Miroslav Vymazal

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Miroslav Vymazal (born April 9, 1952 in Bratislava ; † October 18, 2002 there ) was a Czechoslovak track cyclist and four-time world champion.

Career

In the 1970s, Miroslav Vymazal and his compatriot Vladimír Vačkář formed the most successful duo in tandem races , which is a Czechoslovak domain anyway. The two athletes were joint world champions four times: in 1973 , 1974 , 1977 and 1978 , also vice world champion in 1975 and third in 1979 .

In 1976 Vymazal started at the Olympic Games in Montreal in the sprint and finished ninth. A start in the tandem race was not possible because this discipline had been removed from the Olympic program after 1972. He was also successful as a single starter in the track sprint, twice winning the renowned Grand Prix Framar in the Czech Republic. He won several titles at the national championships on the track. In 1982 he won the sprint title, on the tandem he won in 1973, as well as 1977 to 1979 with his standard partner Vladimír Vačkář, in the 1000 meter time trial he was Czech champion in 1974.

The Miroslav Vymazal Memorial has been held in Bratislava in his memory since 2003 .

Honors

In 1973 and 1977 he was the winner of the annual survey for the Král cyklistiky ( cycling king ) of the cycling association Československý svaz cyklistiky.
