UCI Track World Championships 1975

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 65th UCI Track Cycling World Championships were held from 20 to 25 August 1975 to the 454.54 meter long cement velodrome in Belgium Rocourt in Liege instead.

The attendance at the competitions was weak: "shockingly few spectators on most days". The team of the Association of German Cyclists had to wait for medals until the last day, then Dieter Kemper became world champion of the professional stayers , and coach Gustav Kilian's gold foursome also won a gold medal. The topic of conversation was the " explosion of performance in GDR cycling", whose riders only started in four disciplines, but won two gold and two bronze medals.

Incidentally, the cycling reporter notes with astonishment that the times of the 200-meter qualifying time trial for the professional sprint were only "slightly above the level in the women's sprint (!)", But one has to mention "for the sake of justice" that it was very cold that evening. As in the Road World Cup, there were no Soviet women at the start who had dominated for years.
