Arie van Vliet was runner-up in the amateur sprint world championship (here at the 1936 World Cup in Zurich).

The 30th UCI Track World Championships took place from August 10th to 19th, 1934 on the Velodrome in Leipzig-Lindenau . 16 nations were at the start. The UCI Road World Championships were held at the same time .

The Leipzigers were attuned to the world championships with a festive parade: behind a procession with the flags of all participating countries and groups of artificial cyclists , bicycles from all eras could be seen - as at the Olympic Games in 1936 , the National Socialists showed their talent for perfect staging a year after taking power . One of the main organizers, Willy Frenzel from Leipzig, withdrew from the cycling scene a few months after the World Cup for political reasons.

The Belgian sprinter Jef Scherens won his third professional title in a row in Leipzig; His closest competitor and friend, Albert Richter from Cologne, became vice world champion. The stalker race was dominated by the Germans, Erich Metze from Dortmund and Paul Krewer from Cologne took first and second place.
