UCI track world championships 1937

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 33rd UCI Track World Championships took place from August 21 to 29, 1937 in Ordrup near Copenhagen .

The track in Ordrup was the venue for the track world championships for the seventh time. The event was sponsored by HRH Prince Harald of Denmark. The organizing committee was headed by Thorvald Ellegaard .

38 drivers from 13 nations were registered for the amateur aviation competitions, and 18 drivers from nine nations for the professionals. There were also athletes from South Africa and Turkey at the start, i.e. from countries that were previously only rarely or not at all represented at a World Cup. 14 riders competed for the world title in the professional standers.

Winning the world title at the posts by Walter Lohmann , that of Walter Sawall was its predecessor, serves as a world champion, and the third place of another German, Adolf Schön , met in Germany on huge enthusiasm.

While the reporter Sigmund Durst in the German cyclist praised the organization of the World Cup by the Danes beyond all measure, his judgment of the Union Cycliste Internationale was all the more negative: with alarming clarity, however, there is this fragile, rotten and more and more for the sporting events Decaying building of the World Cycling Federation […]. As in previous years, there was particular criticism of the partiality of competition referees, but also of the alleged permanent disadvantage especially of German athletes.
