Gentofte Kommune [ ˈgɛntɔfdə ] is a Danish municipality in the Hovedstaden region . Gentofte is the richest municipality in Denmark and is considered a conservative suburb of the Danish capital Copenhagen .
geography
The city is located about nine kilometers north of the capital Copenhagen and is the eighteenth largest municipality in the country. 74,830 inhabitants live in an area of 25.60 km² (as of January 1, 2020). Gentofte is part of the capital region Hovedstadsområdet . Together with the municipalities of Copenhagen and Frederiksberg , the Gentofte municipality forms the capital of Denmark ( "Hovedstaden" ) in the narrower sense.
The districts are Charlottenlund, Dyssegård, Gentofte, Hellerup , Ordrup and Vangede.
The municipality consists of seven suburban settlements that have developed around former villages and mansions outside of Copenhagen: Charlottenlund, Dyssegård, Gentofte, Hellerup , Jægersborg, Klampenborg, Ordrup, Skovshoved and Vangede. The administrative seat is in Charlottenlund.
The municipality mainly has exclusive residential areas for commuters to Copenhagen as well as trade and service companies. The pharmaceutical manufacturer Novo Nordisk is the last remaining industrial company to be based here after the Tuborg brewery was closed.
