The Skovshoved petrol station is a historic petrol station in the coastal town of Skovshoved ( Gentofte municipality ) on the Øresund, north of Copenhagen . The petrol station, which is located next to the town's harbor, is operated by the Danish petrol station chain Uno-X.

history

The Danish architect Arne Jacobsen designed the gas station in the functionalism style in 1936 on behalf of Texaco . Jacobsen had worked on the Bellavista settlement and the Bellevue Theater in Klampenborg, north of the gas station, in previous years . In 2003 the architecture firm Dissing + Weitling - the office was founded by Otto Weitling and Hans Dissing , who were employed by Arne Jacobsen - restored the petrol station on behalf of the Gentofte municipality. The tiles on the facade were replaced.

layout

The single-storey, square building is clad on the outside with white tiles in a vertical orientation. On the north side there are two garage doors through which cars could drive into the workshop. Only the west side has windows and doors through which the checkout area is entered. Next to the window front there is a clock on the facade that is illuminated in red at night and was only installed later. The round, mushroom-shaped roof with a single central column made of concrete is painted white on the underside and is illuminated by three spotlights above the entrance to the building and four spotlights on the central column. This construction means that the tank area is illuminated indirectly. The roof has its highest point on the street and slopes evenly towards the rear.
