Sune Berg Hansen (born April 21, 1971 in Gentofte ) is a Danish chess player . In 1993 he became International Master and since 1998 he has held the title of Grand Master .

Life

Hansen graduated from the University of Copenhagen with a bachelor's degree in economics . He has been a professional poker player since 2005. He is the founder of the Danish accountant PokerNet and writes a daily chess and weekly poker column for the Danish newspaper Politiken . He also writes for European Poker Magazine .

Chess successes

In 1998 he won the Excelsior Cup in Gothenburg and in 1999 the Hamburg Individual Championship . In 2000 he was able to qualify for the World Cup elimination at the zone tournament in Reykjavík , but in New Delhi he was eliminated in the first round with 0.5: 1.5 against Andrei Charlow . He took part in seven Chess Olympiads for Denmark ( 1994 , 2000 , 2002 , 2004 , 2006 , 2010 and 2012 ), with a positive overall result of 37 points from 70 games (+21 = 32 −17) and five European team championships (2005 , 2007, 2009, 2011 and 2013). He was able to win the Danish individual championship seven times : in Greve in 2002 , in Køge in 2005 , in Aalborg in 2006 and 2007 , in Silkeborg in 2009 , in Helsingør in 2012 and in Svendborg in 2015 .

He has played in the German Bundesliga since 1998 for Hamburger SK , with whom he also took part in the European Club Cup in 2007 , in Danish leagues until 2009 for Helsingør Skakklub and in the 2017/18 season for Hillerød Skakklub . In Sweden he played for Lunds ASK until the 2002/03 season . After a ten-year break in the Swedish league, he was active again for Lund in the 2012/13 and 2013/14 seasons ; from 2015 to 2018 he played for the team of Malmö AS , with which he became champions in 2018 . In the 2018/19 season , Hansen joined the Lunds ASK again and won the title with it. In addition, also between 2005 and 2007 in the Dutch Meesterklasse individual competitions for Homburg Apeldoorn denied.

In January 2015 he was third in the Danish Elo ranking, behind Peter Heine Nielsen and Curt Hansen .
