Carsten Hoi

Carsten Høi (born January 16, 1957 in Copenhagen ) is a Danish chess player . He lives in Ishøj and works as a German teacher.

He has held the title of International Master since 1979 and has been a Grand Master since 2001 . For this he needed four standards between 1988 and 1996. He is the eighth Dane to be awarded the grandmaster title. In 1971 he became Danish junior champion. He was able to win the Danish individual championship three times : 1978, 1986 and 1992.

Høi won the Copenhagen Open , also known as the Politiken Cup , in 1979 and split in 1997. In 1980 he won tournaments in Calella and Prague , 1981 in Villajoyosa and in 1989 the Gausdal Troll Masters . In 1990 he was victorious at the International Travemünde Chess Open , and in 2002 at the 2nd Atlantic Weekend in Copenhagen. In 2005 he was tied for first in Ribe , in 2007 he won this tournament.

He took part with the Danish national team in five Chess Olympiads ( 1978 , 1980 , 1988 , 1992 and 1996 ) as well as two European team championships (1983 and 1992) and two EEC team championships (1978 and 1980), the Danish team with him on second board in 1980 in West Berlin received the bronze medal. At the 1988 Chess Olympiad in Thessaloniki , his victory over Boris Gulko was awarded the prize for the best combination of the tournament.

Since 2012 he has been playing in Germany for SG Turm Kiel in the Oberliga Nord and higher leagues, he has also played for other northern German clubs ( VfL Blau-Weiß Neukloster , Lübecker SV , SC Neukloster ) in the 2nd Bundesliga and in the Oberliga . In the Swedish Elitserien he played for Åstorps SS , in Denmark for Brønshøj Skakforening . With Brønshøj he won the Danish championship in the 2013/14 season .

His Elo rating is 2335 (as of April 2020). He had his best Elo rating in July 1989 with 2510.
