Curt Hansen (born September 18, 1964 in Tønder ) is a Danish chess player .

In 1981 he became Junior European Champion U20 in Groningen , one year later he was awarded the title of International Champion . In 1984 he became Junior World Champion U20 . Since 1985 he has been the International Grand Master of FIDE . The six-time Danish (1983-85, 1994, 1998 and 2000) and two-time Nordic (1983 and 1995) champion played at five chess Olympiads on the top board for Denmark ( 1984 , 1988 , 1990 , 1996 and 2000 ) and scored 38.5 points 62 games. In 1983 Hansen took part in the European Team Championship in Plovdiv . Hansen is also active in correspondence chess . Here he bears the title of correspondence chess grandmaster, which he received through his performance at the Korning Memorial , and was a two-time Danish champion with the Tønder team . In Germany he played in the German Federal Chess League from 1996 to 2007 for SG Porz , with whom he became German team champion in 1998 , 1999 , 2000 and 2004 . In the Danish Skakligaen he played for the Charlottenlunder club Philidor in the 2015/16 season and became champion with them.

Since 1986 he has been writing a daily column in Jyllands-Posten . From 1986 to 2000 he had a Sunday column in the southern Danish newspaper JydskeVestkysten . He is considered a specialist in Scandinavian defense , on which he also published a standard work in the form of a CD in 2002 ( ISBN 3-935602-43-X ).

In January 2015, he was behind Peter Heine Nielsen in second place in the Danish Elo ranking, which he had led until 2003. His highest place in the world rankings was 18th in July 1992 with his highest rating to date of 2635.
