The Elitserien is the top division in Swedish team chess . This consists of 10 teams; The game is played on 8 boards.
Organizational form
The 10 participating teams play a simple round-robin tournament ; the final placement is determined by the number of team points (two points for a win, one point for a draw, no point for a defeat), then the number of board points (one point for a winning game, half a point for a draw game, no point for a losing game). The last two will be relegated to the Superettan and will be replaced by the first two placed in the Superettan. A club can be represented by a maximum of one team in the Elitserien (this regulation has only been in effect since the 1995/96 season, so that the Schacksällskapet Manhem entered the Elitserien with two teams in the 1993/94 season). The team line-ups must be based on the Elo rating, but a player may only be placed two boards higher or lower. A team may use a maximum of two foreigners per competition. The cooling-off time is 90 minutes for the first 40 moves and 30 minutes until the end of the game; From the first move on, each player also receives a time credit of 30 seconds per move until the end of the game.
history
The Elitserien was introduced for the 1987/88 season. Before that, the two-track Division I was the top division, the title of the Swedish team champion was determined in a final tournament. When the Elitserien was founded, 8 teams belonged, for the 1990/91 season the Elitserien was expanded to 10 teams. A further increase in the Elitserien to 12 teams took place in the 1998/99 season, but for the 2011/12 season the Elitserien was again reduced to 10 teams.
