SK Rockaden Stockholm

SK Rockaden is the largest chess club in Sweden . It was founded in 1921 in the central Stockholm district of Södermalm , where it was based for the longest time in the first 40 years of its existence. In 1961 the association moved to the southern district of Högdalen , and in 1993 to its current address in the southwestern district of Hägerstensåsen .

Since the 1972/73 season Rockaden has been playing in the top division of Swedish team chess ( Division I until 1987 , since then Elitserien ). The Swedish team championship was won 22 times : 1957 , 1958 , 1959 , 1980 , 1982 , 1984 , 1985 , 1986 , 1992 , 1993 , 1994 , 1995 , 1996 , 1997 , 1998 , 2001 , 2004, 2005 , 2008 , 2009 , 2014 and 2016 .

SK Rockaden has represented Sweden 15 times at the European Chess Union Cup : 1980/82, 1983/84, 1985/86, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 2000, 2001, 2005, 2008, 2014 and 2016 The club reached the semi-finals in 1986 and the quarter-finals in 1993.

Well-known players who play or played for SK Rockaden Stockholm are the grandmasters Ulf Andersson , Erik Blomqvist , Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen , Jaan Ehlvest , Jon Ludvig Hammer , Wassyl Iwantschuk , Lars Karlsson , Eric Lobron , Arturs Neiksans, Peter Heine Nielsen , Johan Salomon and Bartosz Soćko , the international champions Jonas Barkhagen , Robert Bator , Roland Ekström , Thomas Engqvist , Christer Hartman , Emil Hermansson , Patrik Lyrberg , Anders Olsson , Mats Sjöberg , Richard Wessman , Jonathan Westerberg and Michael Wiedenkeller as well as the correspondence chess grandmaster Dan Olofsson .

SK Rockaden has been the leading club for young players since the early 1980s. The club has won the Swedish junior team competition Juniorallsvenskan (for players up to 20 years old) 16 times since it was first held in 1987: 1990, 1992–1995, 1997–1998, 2005–2010, 2013, 2016 and 2018. He also won the Swedish Cadet team competition Kadettallsvenskan (for players up to 16 years of age) 20 times since it was first held in 1987: 1987–1990, 1992, 1994–1998, 2000, 2003–2008, 2012–2013 and 2016. The SK Rockaden has over 1,100 Members, 325 of whom are currently registered with a LASK rating at the Swedish Chess Federation (as of June 2015).
