Lars Carl-Gustaf Karlsson (born July 11, 1955 in Stockholm ) is a Swedish chess player .

Life

In 1979 he was awarded the Schackgideon , a once a year award from the Swedish Chess Federation named after Gideon Ståhlberg . Lars Karlsson is a senior teacher at the Stockholm Metapontum Chess High School. He writes the chess column for the Stockholm newspaper Aftonbladet .

At the Rilton Cup 1977/78 in Stockholm, he finished tied with the winner in second place. For example, he won tournaments in Malmö in 1979 , in Hradec Králové and Silkeborg in 1980 , in Esbjerg ( North Sea Cup ) and Niš in 1981, in Eksjö in 1982 , in Helsinki in 1983, in 1983/84 in Hastings (shared with Jonathan Speelman ), and in Copenhagen in 1988 and Jönköping , 1989 in Copenhagen (divided), 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008 in Stockholm and 2009 in Barcelona and Sitges . He could only win the Swedish individual championship once, in 1992 in Borlänge .

For the Swedish national team he played at four chess Olympiads ( 1980 on board 2, 1982 on board 3, 1984 on board 2 and 1990 on board 3), as well as three European team championships (1980 on board 2, 1992 on the first reserve board and 2005 in the second Swedish Team on board 2) and at the Nordic Chess Cups 1985 and 1987. He was particularly successful at the latter: in 1985 in Pohja , Finland , his team won the cup with him on the top board, with an individual gold medal for his result of 5.5 points received from 7 lots on the top board. This included victories against Gerald Hertneck , Simen Agdestein and Curt Hansen . At the Nordic Chess Cup 1987 in Słupsk , Sweden took third place with Karlsson on the top board.

He played club chess in the 1970s for Vällingby SS , in the 1980s for Södra SASS and for decades now for SK Rockaden Stockholm , with whom he won the Swedish team championship 13 times: 1992/93 , 1993/94 , 1994 / 95 , 1995/96 , 1996/97 , 1997/98 , 2000/01 , 2003/04 , 2004/05 , 2007/08 , 2008/09 , 2013/14 and 2015/16 . With SK Rockaden Stockholm he also took part in the European Club Cup six times , at the European Club Cup 2005 in Saint-Vincent (Aosta Valley) he received an individual bronze medal for his result of 4 out of 5 on the first board with an Elo rating of 2752 a win against, among others, Rainer Polzin and draw games against Lajos Portisch and Étienne Bacrot . In Catalonia he plays for Sitges .

He received the title of International Master in 1979 and the Grand Master title in November 1982. In February 2015 he was 22nd in the Swedish Elo ranking.
