Tiger Christopher Robin Hillarp Persson (born October 28, 1970 in Malmö ) is a Swedish chess player and writer who holds the title of grandmaster .

Life

He is considered a creative and original attacking player. He won the grandmaster title with a good result at the 1998 Chess Olympiad in Elista .

Hillarp Persson won the 1999 tournaments in Gentofte (before Sune Berg Hansen , Simen Agdestein , Einar Gausel , Helgi Áss Grétarsson , Heikki Westerinen and Lars Schandorff ) and York (after ranking before Alexei Barsov and Julian Hodgson ) as well as in Saint Helier 2000 and Guernsey 2001.

At the Nordic Championships in Vammalla in Finland in 2005, he finished second behind Evgeny Agrest . In the same year he was also the Swedish runner-up. In 2007 he was Swedish national champion in Stockholm with 9 points from 13 games. He repeated this success in Växjö in 2008 with 10 out of 13.

In 2005 he published his first book, Tiger's Modern , on modern defense (Quality Chess Europe AB, Göteborg 2005, ISBN 9-197524-36-0 ), which he published in 2015 as The Modern Tiger (Quality Chess, ISBN 1907982833 ) and reissued updated version.

In January 2015, he is in fifth place in the Swedish Elo ranking.

National team

Tiger Hillarp Persson took part in eight Chess Olympiads with the Swedish national team between 1996 and 2014 , taking third place in the individual standings on the second reserve board in 1998 and on the third board in 2008 , as well as at the European team championships in 1999, 2005, 2007 and 2015.

Hillarp Persson played for Skara Schacksällskap until 2009 , then until 2016 for Lunds ASK , with which he became Swedish team champion in 2011 . From 2016 to 2018 he played for the team of Malmö AS , with which he became champions in 2018 , in the season 2018/19 Hillarp Persson played again for Lunds ASK and won the title with it. He has also been playing in Denmark for Brønshøj Skakforening since 1999 , which won the Danish team championship in 2014 , and has also played in Norway (for Kristiansund SK and Asker Schakklubb ) and in the British Four Nations Chess League (for Wood Green ).

In 2015 he achieved 1st Dan in Go .
