Evgeny Agrest (born August 15, 1966 in Vitebsk ) is a Swedish chess player with roots in Belarus .

Life

Agrest moved from Belarus to Leningrad in the mid-1980s , where he studied economics . After the collapse of the Soviet Union, he settled in Stockholm in 1994 with his wife Swetlana (* 1966), who holds the international women's championship title (WIM) . He has been eligible to play for the Swedish Chess Federation since 1997. The couple has three children. Daughter Inna (* 1991) won the Swedish U13 Championship in 2003, was third in the U18 European Women's Championship in 2009 and has been a WIM since 2009.

Chess career

Single successes

Agrest was awarded the title of Grand Master by FIDE in 1997 . He was the best Swedish player for several years ahead of Ulf Andersson . Agrest won the Swedish championship four times (1998, 2001, 2003 and 2004) and three times (2001, 2003 and 2005) the Nordic individual championship.

Team chess

National team

For Sweden he took part in eight chess Olympiads , continuously from 1998 to 2010 and at the 2014 Chess Olympiad . From 1999 to 2007 he took part in all five European team championships .

Club chess

In the Swedish Elitserien , Agrest played for the Sollentuna SK from 1998 to 2009 , from the 2009/10 season to the 2017/18 season he played for the Viking team (which was initially a syndicate of the Sollentuna SK and the Täby SK , but has since become SK Team Viking is an independent club) and became Swedish team champions in 1999 , 2000 , 2002 , 2003 , 2006 , 2007 , 2010 , 2012 , 2015 and 2017 . In the 2018/19 season he plays for Alingsås Schacksällskap . In the German federal chess league Agrest played in the 2003/04 season with the Bremer Schachgesellschaft von 1877 , in the Austrian state league he played in the 2000/01 season with master Merkur Graz . In France Agrest played with Echiquier Niçois until 2006 , in the Polish team championship he belonged to BBTS Włókniarz Bielsko-Biała from 1990 to 1992 and was with this 1990 Polish team champion. In the Norwegian Eliteserien he was registered for the Stavanger Sjakklub in the 2014/15 season , but was not used. Agrest took part in the European Club Cup eight times , namely in 1997 for Merkur Graz , 1999, 2002, 2006, 2007, 2010, 2012 and 2014 for the SK Sollentuna and the Viking team .
