State Chess League A 2000/01
The 2000/01 season was the 26th season of the Austrian chess State League A . From the State League B were SV Gamlitz and SK VOEST Linz ascended.
While SV Gamlitz achieved relegation, VÖEST Linz would have been relegated in purely sporting terms together with 1. Wiener Neustädter SV , but since SG Husek / Ottakring withdrew their team, Linz remained in the State League A.
The defending champion SK Merkur Graz won the sixth title in a row with a 4.5 point lead.

The competitions took place on October 21 and 22, 2000 in Mayrhofen , from November 17 to 19, 2000 in Gleisdorf , from January 19 to 21, 2001 in Graz and from March 16 to 18, 2001 in Fürstenfeld .

Qualifying tournament for the State League A 2001/02
The qualifying tournament for the State League A took place in Jenbach from April 20-22 . The participants were Wüstenrot Salzburg (winner of the State League B middle), Tschaturanga Vienna (winner of the State League B East), the chess club Jenbach (winner of the State League B West) and the SC Die Klagenfurt as the winner of the State League B South. Jenbach and Klagenfurt took the first two places and were promoted to the state league A.
