Nikolaus Stanec (born April 29, 1968 in Vienna ) is a leading Austrian chess master . He currently plays for SC Donaustadt in the Vienna regional league.

Life

Nikolaus Stanec learned chess from his father when he was five. At the age of eight he joined a chess club and played intensively up to the age of 14, but interrupted playing in favor of his high school years. After graduating from high school, he enrolled in psychology and chemistry at the university. After a short time, however, he broke off his studies and concentrated on his chess career.

successes

In 1991, now a professional chess player, he succeeded in creating the first standard for the title of International Master . Stanec won the Austrian state championship for the first time in 1995 , then every year until 2005 with the exception of 2001. Stanec won his eleventh and twelfth national championship titles in Vienna in 2018 and 2019. In 1997 and 1999 he won the Austria Open , in 1999, 2001, 2002 and 2003 the Danube Open in Vienna . In 2003 he won in Ansfelden . The FIDE awarded him in November 2003, the Grandmaster title . He fulfilled the required standards at the European Club Cup 2000 in Neum , in September 2002 at a GM tournament in St. Pölten and at the Vienna Open in August 2003.

National team

With the Austrian national team, Stanec took part in the Chess Olympiads in 1994 and 1996 as well as the European Team Championships in 1997 and 2009.

Stanec played in the Austrian state league A or 1st Bundesliga from 1990 to 1995 for SK Margareten , with whom he became champions in 1993 , 1994 and 1995 and also took part in the European Club Cup in the same years, from 1995 to 2002 for SK Merkur Graz , with which he became champion in 1996 , 1997 , 1998 , 1999 , 2000 , 2001 and 2002 and took part in the European Club Cup five times, and from 2003 to 2007 for the team from Union Ansfelden , with which he was champion in 2005 and 2007 and at the European Club Cup 2005 participated.
