State Chess League A 1999/2000
The 1999/2000 season was the 25th season of the Austrian chess State League A . From the State League B were SK Zell am Ziller and the first SSK Mozart ascended. While Salzburg managed to stay in the league, SK Zell am Ziller had to relegate together with SC Die Klagenfurter .
The defending champion SK Merkur Graz won the fifth title in a row by ten points.
After the season the 1st SK Ottakring merged with SG Austria / Husek to form SG Austria / Husek / Ottakring . The SK Loosdorf, which rose to the state league A last season and reached fourth place, took part in the competition as SV NÖ Melk-Wachau from this season .

The competitions took place from October 22nd to 26th, 1999 in Melk , from January 14th to 16th, 2000 in Fürstenfeld and from March 17th to 19th, 2000 in Graz .

Qualifying tournament for the State League A 2000/01
The qualifying tournament for the State League A took place from March 31 to April 2 in Linz . The participants were SK VÖEST Linz (winner of the Staatsliga B Mitte), SK Austria Wien - Husek (winner of the Staatsliga B Ost), the SK Sparkasse Absam (winner of the Staatsliga B West) and the union Raika Gamlitz / Leutasch as the winner of the State League B South. Gamlitz / Leutasch and Linz took the first two places and were promoted to the State League A.
