State Chess League 1977/78

The 1977/78 season was the third season of the Austrian State Chess League .

Defending champion SK VÖEST Linz had to be satisfied with the disappointing eighth place this time. The title race turned into a duel between the Viennese teams. SK Austria Wien became the new champion with a half-point lead over SK Hietzing Wien .

In the previous year, the Linzer SV was promoted , which confidently reached the league with fifth place. However, SK Dornbirn had to relegate . In addition, with the SK Schlechter Innsbruck, a club withdrew from the state league. In their place, ATUS Judenburg and the 1. SSK Mozart qualified for the State League.

Qualification for the State League 1978/79

The ATUS Judenburg and the first SSK Mozart failed to qualify for the following season. The venue, date and results of the qualifying tournament are also unknown, as are the other participating clubs.
