The 1983/84 season was the 9th season of the Austrian State Chess League .

The SK VOEST Linz was despite two defeats in the last two rounds Austrian champion while defending champion to SK Austria Wien had to settle for fifth place.

In the previous year, SC Inter Salzburg was promoted and had to relegate directly.

The competitions took place on 22./23. October, 5th / 6th, 19th and 20th November, 3rd / 4th December 1983, 4th / 5th, 18th / 19th February, 3rd / 4th, 17th / 18th March 31st and March 31st and April 1st 1984.
